The IGI shows that
between 1600-1750 Newcastle was the main
Broket centre with 18 marriages and 28 baptisms. Thereafter
numbers dwindled there and from 1750-1849 Earsdon
(3 m N of North Shields) with its colliery was the main centre
with 14 marriages and 9 baptisms, followed by Gateshead,
Durham and Sunderland. Numbers
declined in all these from 1850-1949, when the only clan was
in Hartlepool with 20 marriages and 42 baptisms.
